dunno how it works over there.... but over here you’d need a moped license

You shouldn’t. In BC you’d be OK.

pends on the location. in ontario canada, yes

i think it depends on your state in how they view mopeds. some allow the operation of mopeds on a regular drivers license and some require the m certification

Depending on state, no!

In my state, no. You’d simply need a driver’s license.
I hope you’re a small person. I love these things, but they are dreadfully slow.

Not in Wisconsin, just a regular drivers license is required here

Oops...didn’t know I was logged into my new blog account with that...but yeah, it largely depends on location. Some states are cool with you not having a M license under 50cc.

That’s why ya get the 150 Chinese clone. Or do a GY6 swap (but at that point you probably should have just purchased the clone anyway).

Louisiana requires a driver’s license with a motorcycle endorsement.

I think a R uckus with a 125 Zuma engine would be pretty hot stuff.
Honda really should make a 125/150 version of the Ruckus already.

I think in WA it has something to do with it being capable of 30mph o r being 50cc or over - under those, just a drivers license.

In the US it depends on state law. Some states consider speed-limited (<35mph) <=50cc motor-scooters and mopeds to be bicycles for legal purposes, some states require them to be licensed, plated and registered as a motor-vehicle. You would have to hold a valid driver’s license to operate it legally, but a separate motorcycle endorsement is not required as long as the vehicle has a 50cc or smaller engine and does not exceed 35mph on level ground (Vermont uses this model). I believe a few states have a separate “moped” license which can be held without having a regular driver’s license and my be held by minors below the age of regular licensing... You’ll have to check with your local DMV. update: apparently some states DO require full motorcycle certification to operate even speed-limited <50cc motor-scooters and mopeds. Generally, any two-wheeled vehicle with an engine of 50cc or larger, or a level-ground top speed in excess of 35MPH is considered a motorcycle, must be registered as such, and requires a motorcycle endorsement to operate.

No, you don’t.

They did (150) , no one bought them, so they stopped

Depends on your local laws and the engine size...if it's a 50cc, possibly. If it's a 125cc, probably not.

The big ruckus was actually a 250, even. It was not bad, but really expensive for a rather ugly scooter.

I thought the main selling point of the ruckus was ugly

The Big Ruckus was a 250, and it was a very different scooter. It completely missed the mark on styling, and isn’t a true step-through scooter. It’s more of a maxi-scooter with the body stripped off.
I’m saying they should stick a 125 or a 150 motor on the exact same scooter.

The Ruckus is utilitarian, like an old CJ Jeep. Both of which I find attractive. The Big Ruckus is fugly. It’s trying too hard to be funky, and missed the mark.

Ruckus owner here from metro-Detroit area. State law is anything under 50cc is considered a scooter/moped. You’ ll need it registered, and get a “plate” (just a sticker to put somewhere). One won’t need a motorcycle license to ride this. Have fun; I love mine, and ride 6 miles to work.
